Anime Quick Review – Code Geass == EPIC FUN!

Well, technically, two series: Code Geass and Code Geass R2.

By now, a zillion people probably reviewed Code Geass and had tons of pleasant things to say about it… I would do the same myself, but, it seems I forgot how to sleep so I’m actually typing this with my eyes closed. Well, let’s see what my sub-conscious mind can think up….

Mechas, school life, comedy, drama, multiple “faces” of not just the protagonist, but several major characters, supernatural powers interwoven with “normal” life, and more twists, turns, and surprises than a raging river… or Fox’s sci-fi schedule.

Yeah, but, it is even more than the sum of its parts. The mechas (giant robots) are not the focus, although they play an important role, the focus is on the pilots, and even so, not as pilots but as people who act as pilots.

To put it another way, this series has multi-dimensionality on a character, plot, and setting level.

I really can’t praise it enough… from the beginning until the very last episode, I greatly enjoyed it.

  1. R2 got a little TOO twisty IMO. I got so you did not know who to root for. Even the person you rooted for the previous episode may no longer be someone you can in the next.

It was still enjoyable, however not as much as first season. Here are my takes on both seasons with lots o’ pics and perhaps a little wit:
